Newcastle, UK – Jamaican dancehall sensation Shenseea has secured her second MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Award, winning Best Caribbean Music Act at the prestigious ceremony held at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.
The “Puni Police” singjay emerged victorious over a competitive field that included Spice, Popcaan, YG Marley, Valiant, and Skillibeng. Her latest win follows her historic 2021 victory in the Best Reggae Act category, making her the first female to achieve that honor since the category’s inception in 1996. The award was renamed Best Caribbean Music Act in 2022.
The MOBO Awards, founded by Kanya King and Andy Ruffell, celebrate outstanding achievements in various genres of Black-origin music, including reggae, hip-hop, grime, R&B, jazz, and African music.
In another major highlight of the night, dancehall icon Vybz Kartel was honored with the Impact Award for his contributions to the genre.
Shenseea’s latest MOBO win further cements her position as one of dancehall’s leading female artists on the global stage.
