FLORIDA, USA – Once living the “Beautiful Girls” lifestyle, Jamaican-American entertainer Sean Kingston is now trading stages for steel bars after being slapped with 42 months (3.5 years) in federal prison on wire fraud charges.
The sentencing went down in a Florida courtroom on Friday, months after Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted in March for scamming businesses out of over US$1 million in a luxury goods fraud ring.
Kingston was facing up to 6 years, but his legal team begged the court for leniency, highlighting his clean criminal record and his involvement in community outreach, where they say he didn’t just donate — he showed up, rolled up his sleeves, and gave back.
Prosecutors, however, wanted the book thrown at him. In the end, the judge split the difference — giving Kingston 3.5 years behind bars, while his mother was handed a full 5-year sentence.
But the trouble doesn’t end there…
Sean still owes money to his victims. His lawyers argued he should be allowed home confinement to keep making music and use the profits to repay those he scammed.
According to investigators, the fraud scheme involved jewelry, luxury rides, and high-end electronics — and it was all built on lies. Sean and Janice reportedly faked wire transfers, claimed payments were made, and once the goods were in hand — they vanished, leaving business owners empty-handed.
From hitmaker to headline-maker, Kingston now has a new chart to climb — the one counting down to his release date.
