Kingston, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) — A 22-year-old police constable attached to the Hunts Bay Police Station found himself on the wrong side of the law Thursday evening, after he allegedly arrived for duty carrying two plastic bags containing items believed to be contraband.
Reports reaching Mckoy’s News are that the young constable was scheduled to begin his shift at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, when he walked into the station with the bags in hand. He reportedly placed them on a metal table near the lockup cell entrance — a location known to be heavily monitored.
His actions didn’t go unnoticed. A fellow officer on duty spotted the bags and, sensing something wasn’t right, alerted a supervisor.
A search was quickly carried out in the presence of the constable, and the contents of the bags raised serious concerns.
The following items were reportedly found:
- Vegetable matter resembling ganja
- Substance believed to be tobacco
- Assorted rizzlers
- Eight lighters
- Two phone chargers
- One plastic bottle containing a clear liquid, believed to be rum
- One cellular phone
- A tube of lightening gel
- One packet of bio gel brightening cream
The officer was taken into custody on the spot. Investigators have since launched a probe into the incident, and a file is being prepared to be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling — a required step in matters involving members of the constabulary.
This incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter oversight of internal operations, particularly in high-risk facilities such as lockups.
