Newly appointed Chairman of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), Ryan Parkes, has expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the continued development of Jamaica’s tourism industry. His appointment officially took effect on May 1.
Parkes, a native of Portland, brings more than two decades of experience in business and finance. Over the years, he has established a strong reputation within Jamaica’s corporate landscape through his leadership and strategic expertise.
An alumnus of Titchfield High School, Parkes holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Technology Jamaica. He also earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London, along with a leadership certificate for senior executives from Harvard Business School.
His professional background includes senior roles at several financial institutions, including JN Bank, VM Building Society, First Global Bank, and the former Capital and Credit Merchant Bank.
In addition to his work in banking, Parkes is recognized for his experience in corporate governance. He currently chairs the boards of both the Jamaica Mortgage Bank and the Tourism Workers Pension Scheme. His previous leadership roles include serving as acting chairman of the National Housing Trust and chairman of the Jamaica Railway Corporation.
Parkes also operates in the private sector as Group Chief Executive Officer and principal shareholder of ICR Holdings Limited. Through this entity, he oversees its subsidiaries, Island Car Rentals Limited and Jamaica Rental Company.
