LONDON, England – Jamaican international Allyson Swaby has officially joined Crystal Palace in the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL), signing a two-year contract with the South London club after leaving Italian side AC Milan. The transfer, subject to international clearance, will keep her at Palace until June 2027.
Palace announced Swaby’s arrival earlier this week, confirming that the defender was signed for an undisclosed fee.
Swaby, 27, expressed her excitement about the move, stating that she is eager to get started with her new teammates.
“I’m super excited to be here. I’m really looking forward to being able to step on to the pitch with the team and just get straight to work,” she said.
Swaby’s move to Crystal Palace marks her sixth professional club since launching her career in 2018 with Icelandic side Knattspyrnufélag Fjarðabyggðar (KFF). After just 12 appearances, she caught the attention of AS Roma, where she played for three seasons, winning the Coppa Italia.
She later joined Angel City FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) before heading to Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) on a six-month loan. After her stint in France, she returned to Italy with AC Milan, where she played until her recent transfer to Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace head coach Laura Kaminski praised Swaby’s experience and leadership, calling her a vital addition to the squad.
“Allyson is a fantastic addition to the squad. She brings experience, leadership, and real defensive quality,” Kaminski said.
“She’s played at the highest level in both club and international football, and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll have here at Palace.”
Palace currently sit bottom of the WSL table with just five points from 12 games. With the worst defensive record in the league, Swaby’s arrival could be crucial as they fight to avoid relegation.
Swaby’s move adds another Reggae Girl to the growing list of Jamaican internationals playing in the WSL. Her sister, Chantelle Swaby, signed with Leicester City earlier this season, joining Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw (Manchester City), Drew Spence and Rebecca Spencer (Tottenham Hotspur), and Taylor Hinds (Liverpool).
Swaby could make her Crystal Palace debut in their next match against Brighton & Hove Albion tomorrow at Broadfield Stadium.
