Jamaica News, April 6, 2018 – Man Arrested in Mega Mart Robbery
Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – A man who reportedly found himself trapped in the vent of a Montego Bay business establishment while trying to break into the establishment was remanded to police custody when he appeared in the St. James Parish Court on Thursday.
The defendant, Peter Barnes is facing charges of shopbreaking with intent and malicious destruction of property
It is alleged that on February 15, 2018, employees were on duty at MegaMart in Catherine Hall when they heard strange sounds at a section of the roof.
Members of Hawkeye security team were contacted and subsequent checks were carried out. It was later observed that a glass area was broken and Barnes was seen trapped inside a vent. He was removed from the vent with the help of the fire department.
The police were summoned to the scene and he was arrested and charged.
During Thursday’s court sitting, it was also disclosed that Barnes has other charges before the court for wounding with intent and burglary. However, the allegations in respect of those charges were not outlined.
Attorney-at-law Martyn Thomas is willing to take assignments through legal aid in respect of all the charges against Barnes.
