A 27-year-old male teacher at a Portland high school was remanded when he appeared in court on Wednesday. He faces two counts of having sexual intercourse with a person under 16 and two counts of grievous sexual assault.
The teacher, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the minor victim, is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student on January 18th.
Following the alleged assault, the victim reportedly complained of pain and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident was reported to the police by the girl’s family, who have expressed outrage at the alleged betrayal of trust by the educator.
The teacher was subsequently arrested and charged. He is scheduled to return to court next month.
