PORTLAND, Jamaica — Malik Lewis, a 22-year-old baker from White River, Buff Bay, has been charged with the murder of 57-year-old Patrick Perry, a farmer from Long Bay in the parish.
The charge stems from an incident on Friday, September 20, at the Buff Bay Police Station, where both men were in custody.
According to reports from the Port Antonio Police, around 10:05 a.m., officers responded to a commotion on the cell block and found Perry unresponsive.
Perry had been severely beaten and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, September 29.
After weeks of investigation, Lewis was charged on Thursday, November 21, following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney.
The police have yet to announce Lewis’s court date as preparations for his appearance are being finalized.
