CLARENDON, Jamaica — The 34-year-old driver of the Subaru motor car involved in this morning’s fatal crash on the Bustamante Highway has been taken into police custody.
Authorities confirmed that the driver was apprehended just over an hour ago at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. It is understood that he was attempting to flee the island when he was intercepted by law enforcement.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gary McKenzie confirmed the arrest, noting that the driver is now under investigation.
The crash, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the York Town area, claimed the lives of two students from Lennon High School and left several others injured. Initial reports indicate that the collision involved a Toyota Probox taxi and the Subaru motor car, with allegations that the taxi may have failed to keep left.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the case develops.
