Entertainer and social media personality Pops YG has been charged with having sex with a person under the age of 16, his attorney, Donnovan Collins, confirmed Monday evening.
The charge followed an order by Senior Parish Court Judge Vaughn Facey requiring police to charge or release the entertainer, whose real name is Ansel Fairclough, by 6:00 pm.
Collins said investigators complied with the deadline.
The order was issued in the Trelawny Parish Court on Monday after Collins filed a habeas corpus application challenging his client’s continued detention. The attorney argued that Fairclough had been held beyond the 120-hour period allowed under the Bail Act.
In making his application, Collins maintained that compliance with Jamaica’s laws was essential to preserving the integrity of the justice system.
Fairclough had been in custody since the previous Monday, following his arrest by detectives assigned to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
The investigation concerns allegations that he engaged in sexual activity with a minor.
Collins said arrangements for his client’s court appearance were being finalised. The allegation has not been proven in court.
