Popeyes Manager Accused of Shooting Co-Worker Over ‘Burnt Biscuits’ Dispute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A workplace dispute at a Charlotte Popeyes turned violent after a manager allegedly shot a fellow employee over an argument about overcooked biscuits.

According to local reports, 22-year-old Rodney Wood has been charged with attempted first-degree murder following the incident, which occurred on Sunday, May 11, at the Popeyes location on South Boulevard.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported by medics to a nearby hospital.

Court documents cited by WBTV-TV state that the altercation began inside the restaurant, reportedly over “burnt biscuits.” Witnesses say the dispute between Wood and the victim — both managers at the establishment — escalated and continued outside, where it became physical.

Wood is accused of shooting the victim twice at point-blank range, once in the groin and again in the chest, before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended by police nearby. Wood allegedly told officers that the other manager had punched him several times, prompting him to fire what he claimed were “warning shots.”

The two men were known to have had ongoing tensions. WBTV reports that Wood had previously requested a transfer to another location due to personal conflicts with the victim.

Wood remains in custody at the Mecklenburg County Jail on a charge of attempted first-degree murder. The condition of the shooting victim has not been disclosed publicly.
