Policewoman Arrested at Clarendon Court Over Missed Court Dates

May Pen, Clarendon  — A police constable assigned to the May Pen Police Station was ordered arrested by a magistrate at the Clarendon Parish Court on Monday, after allegedly failing to appear for multiple court dates related to a case she was investigating.

The officer, whose name has not been officially released, reportedly arrived at court Monday morning, only to be taken into custody on the spot by order of the resident magistrate. The court had reportedly grown frustrated with her repeated absences from scheduled hearings.

The constable is the investigating officer in an ongoing case currently before the court, and her presence was required to give evidence. Judges have the authority to bind over such officers to ensure they appear in court when called.

She was charged with non-appearance and subsequently granted bail in the sum of $80,000.

Her arrest has triggered discontent among colleagues at the May Pen Police Station. Several officers have reportedly expressed outrage, arguing that the court made no apparent attempt to contact the constable beforehand and that no warrant was issued prior to her arrest.

“This is very troubling,” one officer said off the record. “There has to be a process. You can’t just arrest a fellow officer without warning or protocol.”

There has been no official statement yet from the Jamaica Constabulary Force or the Court Administration Division, but legal and procedural questions surrounding the arrest are expected to be examined in the coming days.

More details are expected to follow as the story develops.
