Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, were found dead at their home in Annandale, Virginia, in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
According to reports from CNN, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday. Officers responding to the scene discovered both individuals inside the residence with gunshot wounds.
Police indicated that the couple’s two teenage children were present in the house at the time. It is understood that their son made the emergency 911 call that alerted authorities.
Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis stated that preliminary findings suggest the same firearm was used in both deaths. He also noted that the situation appears to be linked to ongoing divorce proceedings involving the couple.
Reports further indicate that Fairfax had recently been served with court documents related to the matter. Investigators believe the domestic dispute may have escalated, leading to the fatal outcome.
Chief Davis described the incident as deeply troubling, noting that while many individuals experience marital separation, such cases rarely end in violence. He added that the development has left the local community and those familiar with the family in shock.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths are ongoing.
