Westmoreland, Jamaica News: Police Officer Charged – A Westmoreland police officer has been criminally charged after being caught attempting to smuggle contraband, including ganja, into the Whithorne police lock-up on Saturday, May 25.
Constable Jafee Chantelope, stationed at Whithorne police station, faces charges of Misconduct in a Public Office and Possession and Dealing in Ganja.
Reports indicate that around 2:30 pm, Constable Chantelope was on duty at the lock-up when his superior officer observed him entering the cell area with a black plastic bag. He was also seen receiving cash from a prisoner, prompting the Corporal to intervene and seize the bag.
Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain ganja, 40 cigarettes, a plastic bag with alcohol, cigarette lighters, and rizzlers.
Constable Chantelope was immediately taken into custody. A file was subsequently sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who ruled on Tuesday that Chantelope should face criminal charges.
