KINGSTON, Jamaica — Authorities have launched a major investigation following the seizure of a significant quantity of cocaine at the Norman Manley International Airport on Friday.
The operation, conducted jointly by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Agency, uncovered 78 parcels weighing approximately 84.2 kilograms (185.24 pounds) of a white powdery substance resembling cocaine.
The discovery was made around 10:00 a.m. at the Amerijet warehouse on the airport premises. The cocaine had been concealed in 13 boxes of 2kg Maggi seasoning, part of a larger shipment that also included wines and beers. The shipment was reportedly destined for an address in Miami, Florida.
The seized narcotics have been transported to FNID headquarters for further analysis and investigation.
No arrests have been made in connection with the find, but Acting Senior Superintendent Samuel Blake, head of the FNID, emphasized the division’s commitment to targeting individuals and groups involved in the illicit firearms and narcotics trade. Blake reassured the public that collaboration with key agencies remains a priority to address threats tied to these criminal activities.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify those responsible for the shipment.
More updates will follow as new details emerge.
