St. Mary, Jamaica – The St. Mary police are investigating a double murder that occurred early this morning in Free Hill, resulting in the deaths of 48-year-old firefighter Gary Samuels and 26-year-old Barrington Clarke.
According to police reports, around 1:30 a.m., Clarke and his common-law wife were at home in their two-storey dwelling when they heard gunshots coming from the lower floor. The men then came upstairs shouting “police” and Clarke opened the door, allowing the men to enter the room, where they inquired about someone. Without warning, the attackers opened fire, hitting Clarke multiple times. The assailants then fled the scene, and Clarke’s common-law wife rushed downstairs, where she discovered Samuels’s body, which also bore gunshot wounds.
An alert was raised, and Clarke was taken to Port Maria Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police teams responded to the scene, where they found Samuels face down in his underpants. Investigators noted several spent shell casings and a live round near his body, indicating the violent nature of the attack.
