St. James, Jamaica – A British woman, Steffanie Boreland, received a monetary penalty in the St. James Parish Court last Thursday for overstaying her welcome in Jamaica.
According to court documents, Boreland, a resident of London, had overstayed her visa by 14 months.
Boreland arrived in Jamaica in February 2023, initially granted a stay of 90 days. However, she failed to leave the country as required. Law enforcement officials apprehended her after acting on information received and locating her in the Salt Spring community of St. James.
During her court appearance, Boreland pleaded guilty to the charge. Presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton fined her $7,000, with an alternative of 10 days in jail. Additionally, a removal order was imposed, requiring her to leave the country.
