Parents Plead Guilty in Death of Missing Las Vegas Toddler Zaela Walker After Nearly 8 Years

After nearly eight years of unanswered questions, the heartbreaking case of missing Las Vegas toddler Zaela Walker has finally reached a major turning point. Authorities confirmed that her parents have pleaded guilty in connection to her death, bringing closure to one of Nevada’s most disturbing child disappearance investigations.

Ricky Beasley, 34, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while Lakeia Walker, 35, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact. The plea deals were entered in connection with the disappearance and death of Zaela Walker, who was reported missing in August 2018 at just two years old.

Despite years of searching, police said Zaela’s body has never been found. Investigators believe the child died shortly after she was last seen alive on August 15, 2018, in North Las Vegas.

According to authorities, Zaela was with her father while her mother attended a job interview. Later that day, investigators said the parents met at a park, where Beasley allegedly refused to return the child to Walker.

Police reports stated that Walker later contacted authorities claiming Zaela needed medical attention due to a swollen lymph node. Investigators also alleged that Beasley demanded $13,000 in exchange for returning the child.

The investigation later uncovered troubling statements from Beasley’s mother, who reportedly heard a loud thump inside her home and saw him carrying Zaela into a bathroom. Authorities said Beasley claimed the child had an accident and reacted angrily. Officials believe this was the final time anyone besides the parents saw Zaela alive.

Investigators also discovered that Beasley searched online for seizure treatments and whether marijuana could help shortly after the incident. Police said he later purchased a pre-rolled marijuana joint from a cannabis dispensary.

On August 22, 2018, authorities said the couple fled Nevada together after Walker allegedly abandoned her phone, wallet, and car at a park. The pair reportedly traveled through several states before crossing into Mexico. They briefly returned to Nevada in September to collect money before continuing their attempt to evade law enforcement.

Police eventually stopped the couple in Texas on November 16, 2018, where investigators believe they were attempting to start new lives under the radar.

Beasley was arrested on December 1, 2018, while Walker was taken into custody in March 2019. Later that year, a grand jury indicted both parents in connection with Zaela Walker’s disappearance and presumed death.

Sentencing for both defendants is scheduled for July 23. Court records show Beasley faces between 10 and 25 years in prison or life with parole eligibility after 10 years. Walker could face up to five years in prison.

The tragic Zaela Walker case has left many in the community grieving for a child whose remains were never recovered, but whose story continued to demand justice for nearly a decade.
