The Hurricane Melissa School Infrastructure Recovery and Resilience Oversight Committee has welcomed progress in restoring schools damaged by the storm, according to the Jamaica Information Service.
The committee, chaired by attorney Rochelle Cameron, was established to provide independent oversight of the repair and reconstruction programme.
Its responsibilities include examining project schedules, expenditure, construction quality, safety and contractor performance, while identifying delays and recommending corrective action.
Education Minister Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon previously said more than 300 schools were severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa. Some require entirely new buildings, with larger projects expected to extend beyond 2026.
The committee was established for an initial one-year period to strengthen accountability and transparency throughout the recovery programme.
