One Suspect Captured After Linstead Gun Battle; Manhunt Continues for Second Fugitive

St. Catherine, Jamaica — A manhunt launched by security forces following a fierce gun battle in Linstead, St. Catherine, on Monday night has resulted in the capture of one of the two men who escaped, believed to have fired at police during the exchange.

The confrontation occurred around 10:30 p.m., when police attempted to intercept five men travelling in a white Toyota Axio along the Linstead bypass. During the ensuing shootout, three of the men were fatally shot, while two others managed to flee the scene.

Two members of the police party were also wounded during the gunfire exchange. One officer remains hospitalized in stable condition, while the other was treated and released. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

Reports indicate that the captured suspect was apprehended early Tuesday morning during a targeted police operation in wooded areas along the Linstead train line. Police sources say the man was nursing a gunshot wound to one of his legs when found hiding in the bushes.

The identity of the captured man has not yet been released, and the second fugitive remains at large as security forces intensify patrols in Linstead and Bog Walk.

Meanwhile, the three men killed during the shootout remain unidentified. Investigators believe the group may be linked to a criminal network operating in Ocho Rios, St Ann, and St Catherine, and may have been involved in robberies and other illegal activities in the Bog Walk and Riversdale areas.

Police are continuing to probe the circumstances of the confrontation, including the intent of the men on the night of the incident, as they attempt to locate the second fugitive.
