Identities of Three Men Killed in Fierce Gun Battle with Police in Linstead Released

St. Catherine, Jamaica — The police in St. Catherine have released the identities of three men who were shot and killed during a fierce gun battle with lawmen along the Linstead bypass on Monday night, an incident that also left two officers injured.

The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Rohan Barrett, of Cedar Grove, Portmore; 25-year-old fruit vendor Davian Francis, of Riversdale district; and 23-year-old mason Tyrese Wright, also of Riversdale, St. Catherine.

Reports reaching McKoy’s News are that about 10:30 p.m., a police team signaled the driver of a white Toyota Axio motor car to stop. The vehicle, which was carrying five men, allegedly sped off and the occupants reportedly opened fire on the police.

A fierce shootout ensued, leaving three of the men fatally shot, while two others escaped into nearby bushes.

Two members of the police team were also shot and wounded during the exchange. One was treated and released, while the other remains hospitalized in stable condition.

A firearm was reportedly seized from the scene.

Following the confrontation, the police launched an intensive manhunt, which led to the capture of one of the escaped suspects. The other remains at large, as investigations continue.

The St. Catherine North Police are continuing their probe to determine if the men were involved in recent criminal activities across the parish.
