The Southern Regional Health Authority reported that no patients were injured after a minor fire broke out at Mandeville Hospital in Manchester on Friday morning.
Around 3:45 am, hospital staff noticed smoke coming from a ward housing the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The staff acted quickly to relocate 11 newborn babies to the pediatric ward.
Hospital administration confirmed that all newborns and staff members were accounted for and safe.
The Fire Department was summoned and firefighters promptly controlled the fire. They determined it originated from a disruption in a power supply unit.
