ST ANDREW, Jamaica — A 48-year-old insurance claims recovery officer is undergoing treatment in hospital after he was found with a gunshot wound at his residence in Mona, St Andrew, on Wednesday morning.
According to police reports, the injured man was discovered by his wife, an employee of a government ministry, shortly after a loud explosion was heard inside the house.
Investigators said the man had been diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) in September 2025 and had reportedly been dealing with depression and anxiety attacks since then.
Reports are that about 4:30 a.m., he complained of stomach discomfort before leaving home to exercise at the University of the West Indies (UWI) campus.
He later returned to the residence around 5:30 a.m. and went upstairs to his room. Moments later, a sound resembling a gunshot alarmed his wife, who went to check on him.
She reportedly found him lying on his side with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. Blood was seen at the scene, and investigators noted damage to a pillow found near him.
Residents in the area assisted in transporting the injured man to hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Police also reported the seizure of a black Glock 19 pistol along with a magazine containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition.
