Medical Jet Crashes in Philadelphia, Killing Seven and Injuring 19

Philadelphia, PA – A medical transport jet crashed into a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood on Friday, killing all six people on board and one person on the ground. The devastating incident also left 19 others injured, with three in the hospital in stable condition.

The Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, had just taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport around 6:06 p.m. It was en route to Tijuana, Mexico, with a scheduled stop in Springfield, Missouri. On board were a young patient returning home after receiving treatment in Philadelphia, her mother, a doctor, a paramedic, and two pilots—all of whom were Mexican nationals.

Witnesses described the crash as a massive explosion that shook the area near Roosevelt Mall, at the intersection of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. The impact ignited multiple fires, setting homes and vehicles ablaze. Some locals initially thought the explosion was a bomb due to the intensity of the flames and debris.

Emergency crews, including the Philadelphia Fire Department and police, rushed to the scene to battle the fires and assist survivors. Authorities have since launched a full-scale investigation into the cause of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are leading the inquiry, but officials have not yet determined what went wrong.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro extended his condolences to the victims’ families and pledged full cooperation with investigators. “This is a heartbreaking tragedy,” Shapiro said. “Our thoughts are with the families, and we will ensure a thorough investigation to determine the cause.”
