Buff Bay, Portland – Three members of a Portland family are in police custody following a violent altercation in Buff Bay on Friday that left one man dead and another injured.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Michael Spoughbourgh, a resident of West Norman Lane in Buff Bay.
According to police reports, the incident began around 1:00 p.m. when Spoughbourgh got into an argument with another man at a bar in Buff Bay. The situation escalated when Spoughbourgh left the scene and later returned armed with a machete, which he allegedly used to wound the man’s hand.
The injured man then went to the police station to file a report, but while doing so, his family members reportedly confronted and attacked Spoughbourgh. Police said he was beaten with a baseball bat and struck with stones, suffering severe injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A source revealed that the injured man, who remains in hospital, has since received death threats. His mother, sister, and another relative have been taken into police custody, authorities have not yet released their names as investigations continue.
