JUTC Introduces New Route from Castleton Gardens to Half-Way Tree

ST MARY, Jamaica – The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) has announced the launch of its new Route 52B, which will operate between Castleton Gardens, St Mary, and Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, starting Monday, February 3.

According to a statement from JUTC, the route will include four daily trips in each direction, with stops at Toms River, Temple Hall, and Golden Spring. The scheduled departure times are:

• From Castleton Gardens: 5:00 am, 7:15 am, 2:00 pm, and 4:10 pm.

• From Half-Way Tree: 6:10 am, 1:00 pm, 3:10 pm, and 5:20 pm.

Fare Discounts with SmartFare Card

JUTC is offering reduced fares for commuters using its SmartFare card, with students, children, and persons with disabilities paying just $20.00 instead of the regular $100.00 cash fare. Seniors will pay $25.00 with the card and $100.00 in cash, while adults will be charged $50.00 with the card and $100.00 if paying in cash.

JUTC’s Marketing and Sales Manager, Nathalia Palomino, emphasized the company’s commitment to affordability, particularly for students and individuals with disabilities. “By offering significantly reduced fares through the SmartFare card, the company is ensuring that public transportation remains an affordable and accessible option for everyone,” she said.

Encouraging SmartFare Adoption

Palomino encouraged commuters to switch to the SmartFare card starting February 1 to take advantage of the discounted rates and a more convenient travel experience. JUTC’s Corporate Communications Manager, Shantole Thompson, highlighted that the new route aligns with the company’s broader goal of improving accessibility and efficiency for public transportation users.

JUTC will officially launch its “Ride Right with SmartFare” campaign on March 4 to further promote the SmartFare card and enhance awareness of its benefits. The company is urging all commuters to obtain the card for lower fares, faster boarding, and a cashless travel experience.
