Kingston, Jamaica – May 26, 2025 — Doreen Billings, affectionately known as “Mama B,” the founder and CEO of SunCity Radio 104.9 FM, has passed away following a battle with stage four uterine cancer. Her death was confirmed by the radio station in a statement released Monday.
Billings, a respected figure in Jamaican media and a passionate community advocate, died on Sunday surrounded by family and loved ones. Known for her strength, grace, and deep commitment to social justice, she played a transformative role in the country’s media landscape.
“She faced her illness with unwavering strength, grace, and dignity,” SunCity Radio said. “Doreen Billings was a pioneering force in Jamaican media and a cherished figure in the Portmore community.”
Through her leadership at SunCity Radio, Billings created a platform that championed young voices, spotlighted local talent, and addressed important national issues. Her passion for cultural advocacy and youth development earned her the beloved nickname “Mama B.”
Outside of broadcasting, Billings was also a leading voice in the fight for children’s rights. As CEO of Mothers in Crisis, a St. Catherine-based organization, she worked tirelessly to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect. She frequently spoke out against the societal indifference that too often surrounds the suffering of vulnerable children.
“Her advocacy was a call to action for many, highlighting the need for greater accountability and compassion,” the station added.
Billings was also a devoted wife, mother to three sons, and grandmother. Her influence extended far beyond the airwaves, touching lives through her relentless dedication to justice, empowerment, and community upliftment.
