Students and staff from Manchester High School joined police officers on Thursday morning in the ongoing search for their missing schoolmate, Jayden Smith.
The search effort is currently concentrated along Wesley Road in Mandeville, following reports that on Wednesday evening a child resembling Jayden was seen in the area. Eyewitnesses say the child fled when approached by residents.
On Thursday morning, teams of students, school staff, and police officers were observed combing the area in hopes of locating the teenager.
Principal Jasford Gabriel expressed cautious optimism during the search.
“We think we are getting closer and closer to having a breakthrough, and so we are combing the area with a number of eyes. The expectation is that we will find him,” he said.
Gabriel added that the school community has been deeply shaken by Jayden’s disappearance.
“The school community is quite uneasy, we not so happy. When one member suffers, the entire community feels it.”
