A delivery truck driver, visibly frustrated, was recalled to the witness stand Wednesday in the murder trial of Constable Noel Maitland, currently underway at the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.
The driver was called back to clarify his involvement in events surrounding the July 12, 2022 disappearance of 24-year-old social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson. Donaldson was last seen at Chelsea Manor Apartments in St Andrew, where Maitland lived. The constable faces charges of murder and preventing the lawful burial of a corpse.
In court, prosecutors played audio recordings of phone calls between Maitland and the driver. The witness testified that he had secretly recorded the conversations after police seized his vehicle, leaving him anxious and uncertain.
He said Maitland had asked him to transport a settee from the constable’s apartment to a carwash on Lyndhurst Road, St Andrew. On the recordings, Maitland is heard asking if the driver could move the furniture elsewhere. Skeptical, the driver asked:
“A who this? A di police youth this?”
Maitland replied: “Yea bro.”
The driver later told the court that his truck had been seized after the delivery. Maitland, seemingly surprised, asked:
“Suh why dem tek away the truck?”
The driver responded: “How me fi know? Police took the truck and all kinds of things.”
At another point, Maitland explained he called because he heard the driver was in trouble with the police. The witness insisted he only wanted clarity:
“Mi nuh want nobody involve me in no form of thing. I’m a big man who works hard. This thing is getting out of hand.”
The audio also captured Maitland laughing during parts of the exchange. The driver occasionally stumbled over names, even calling Maitland “Leighton.”
Before leaving the stand, the witness expressed his exhaustion with the repeated court appearances, telling prosecutors:
“Mi tired a oonuh now.”
He said the summonses were disrupting his business.
The trial is set to resume Tuesday.
