Manchester, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – A policeman lost his life in a tragic crash along the Winston Jones Highway in Manchester on Sunday, leaving his two young children seriously injured and now battling for survival in hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Sergeant Patrick Brown of the Manchester Division Operations Support Team.
Reports are that the officer was traveling with his twin children when the crash occurred. He was fatally injured on the spot, while the children were rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where they remain in serious but stable condition under medical care.
The shocking incident has sent waves of grief through the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). In a statement, the High Command described the sergeant as a valued officer whose death has left the entire organisation in mourning.
“In this difficult moment, the thoughts and prayers of the entire JCF family are with Sergeant Brown’s loved ones, colleagues, and friends,” the statement read.
The Chaplaincy Services Branch, Welfare Division, and Police Federation have since been mobilised to provide immediate support to the bereaved family and the officer’s colleagues.
“Sergeant Brown was a dedicated policeman whose passing is a great loss to the Force and the wider Manchester community,” the statement continued.
The tragedy highlights yet again the dangers of Jamaica’s roads, as the island grapples with rising road fatalities.
