Port of Spain, Trinidad (McKoy’s News) – Relief swept through Trinidad on Sunday after a Caribbean Airlines pilot, who had been kidnapped last week, was found alive during a daring police operation in Maraval, on the outskirts of the capital.
The pilot, 59-year-old Daniel Kawall, was rescued by members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) in a residential section of Maraval following a coordinated investigation. He was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
During the high-stakes operation, one suspect was shot and killed, while two others were arrested after being caught allegedly withdrawing money from an ATM using Kawall’s bank card.
The AKU, with crucial support from the Coastal and Riverine Unit and other tactical teams, carried out the mission that brought an end to days of tension across the island.
Kawall, who lives in Valsayn North and operates a business in Piarco, had not been seen since Wednesday. That same night, his Toyota Hilux was spotted in Cascade, where residents reported hearing chilling screams coming from the vehicle.
By Friday morning, the kidnappers had reportedly demanded a TT$1 million ransom, sparking an islandwide manhunt that ended in Sunday’s dramatic rescue.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has not yet released further details of the operation but confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
