Manchester Businesswoman Charged After Allegedly Stealing Borrowed Car and Registering It in Her Name

MANCHESTER, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) — A 33-year-old businesswoman from Chudleigh, Manchester, has been charged after she allegedly borrowed a vehicle and later illegally transferred ownership into her name without the owner’s knowledge.

Charged is Reva Powell, otherwise called ‘Shorty’, who now faces larceny by trick and simple larceny charges. She is to appear before the Manchester Parish Court on Tuesday, August 5.

According to reports from the Mandeville Police, the incident unfolded in June, when a woman loaned Powell her grey Honda Fit motor car to attend a graduation event. After the event, Powell allegedly requested to keep the vehicle for an additional week.

However, after that extended period, the vehicle was not returned.

The situation took a shocking turn when the owner discovered that Powell had allegedly entered her home, stolen the vehicle documents, and went on to register the car in her own name — all without permission or knowledge of the legal owner.

A report was made to the police and following investigations, Powell was instructed to report to the Mandeville Police Station with both the vehicle and documents. She complied by handing over the documents but failed to account for the vehicle’s whereabouts.

Following her failure to provide satisfactory information, she was formally charged on Saturday, July 26.

Law enforcement officials are urging citizens to be cautious when lending out vehicles or personal documents, as this case highlights the serious consequences of misplaced trust.
