NASSAU, Bahamas (McKoy’s News) — A 58-year-old Bahamian man has been remanded to custody following disturbing allegations that he sexually abused his eight-year-old step-granddaughter on multiple occasions earlier this year.
The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the minor, was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a dependent child, a serious offence under Bahamian law.
He appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans where the court was told that the alleged incidents occurred between January 1 and June 31, 2025, in New Providence, Bahamas.
The man was not required to enter a plea, as the matter is expected to be transferred to the Supreme Court via a Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI). He was informed of his right to apply for bail through the higher court.
A VBI hearing has been tentatively scheduled for November 27, and the accused has been remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until that time.
The shocking case has sparked outrage across the island nation, with child protection advocates calling for urgent reforms and greater oversight in cases involving vulnerable minors.
