ANTIGUA — Shawn Mussington, who was found guilty of murdering Jamaican hairdresser Simone Whyte-Barrington, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down in the High Court on Tuesday, following his conviction for the capital offence by a jury in March. The judge ordered that the sentence be reviewed after Mussington has served 20 years.
Mussington was charged for the fatal stabbing of Whyte-Barrington on November 14, 2020.
During the week-long trial, the prosecution presented evidence that Mussington had become obsessed with Whyte-Barrington after their breakup. He was described as stalking her and monitoring her movements before launching what was described as a cowardly sneak attack.
On the night of the incident, Mussington stabbed Whyte-Barrington in the chest with a knife during a gathering, after grabbing her as she passed him. She died at the scene.
