MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A man said to be a car wash attendant was apprehended in Mandeville, Manchester on Tuesday after stealing a Honda motorcar from his workplace in May Pen, Clarendon.
Reports are that around 3:00 pm, the owner of a Honda Stepwagon left her vehicle at a car wash in May Pen. Shortly after, she was alerted that an attendant had driven away the vehicle.
The car was later tracked to a heavily vegetated area on the outskirts of Mandeville, and the police were notified.
During a search operation, officers attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle on Caledonia Road near a fast-food outlet. During a chase, the driver hit several vehicles and eventually crashed the car into a utility pole.
Two other men who were in the vehicle escaped on foot, and a shootout reportedly ensued before the driver was captured.
Investigators believe the men were planning a robbery spree in Mandeville.
The incident caused panic in the area, with people fleeing after hearing explosions and witnessing chaotic scenes. Police cordoned off a section of Caledonia Road as they conducted their operations.
The swift police response led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the apprehension of the suspect.
