Montego Bay, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Man, Given Time to Secure Lawyer, on Ganja Rap:  A St. James man facing ganja possession charges was given time by the St. James Parish Court this morning to secure the services of an attorney.

The defendant, Romario Bent pleaded not guilty to possession of ganja and dealing in ganja.

He was arrested after the police found 54 transparent plastic bags with ganja in his possession.

When the matter was called up for mention before presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small this morning, the clerk-of-court indicated that he chain of custody statement and the forensic report were missing from the prosecution’s case file.

In respect of legal representation, Bent told the judge that he would like an opportunity to secure the services of a lawyer. Attorney-at-law Chumu Paris expressed a willingness to represent him but the judge said she would not set a trial date until Bent has made a settlement with lawyer Paris.

Judge Wong-Small subsequently set the matter for mention on August 10 before extending Bent’s bail.
