St Ann, Jamaica: Man Fatally Shot After Attacking Police – The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has commenced a probe into the fatal shooting of a man after he allegedly attacked a police officer with a machete during an altercation in Hyatt’s Field, St. Ann, on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Herbert Hines, a construction worker also from Hyatt’s Field.
Reports indicate that around 9:00 a.m., a resident called the police to report a domestic incident involving Hines in the community.
The lawmen drove to the area, and upon seeing the police arriving, Hines ran and was chased by the officers.
It is alleged that Hines, who was armed with a machete, turned and chopped a police Constable. In response, the Constable pulled his service revolver and opened fire, hitting Hines.
Both injured men were rushed to the hospital, where they were treated and admitted, but Hines later succumbed to his injuries.
