KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Nearly seven years after the fatal shooting of assistant coach Oral “Ruff” Francis, the Kingston Western police have made a breakthrough, charging a suspect in connection with the crime.
Twenty-nine-year-old Shevaughn Alexander Carnegie, also known as “Demon” and “Negie,” of Drecketts Place in Tivoli Gardens, has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Francis, a resident of Arnett Gardens, was gunned down on May 18, 2018, as he stood at the gate of his home. Reports indicate that around 8:00 a.m., a man approached him, opened fire, and then fled the scene on foot. Francis sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.
After an extensive investigation, police apprehended Carnegie and placed him on an identification parade last Thursday, where he was positively identified. He was subsequently charged.
Authorities continue their probe into the case as they work to bring justice to Francis’s family and the community.
