St James, Jamaica — A Flankers man is now behind bars after he was allegedly caught red-handed with a loaded illegal firearm in the heart of Montego Bay early Saturday morning.
The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Tariq Cole, who now faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Reports from the Barnett Street police are that about 3:42 a.m., officers were on patrol in the Shoes Arcade on Harbour Street when Cole’s suspicious behaviour caught their attention.
Upon spotting the lawmen, Cole reportedly ran off and flung an object to the ground. A chase ensued, and he was quickly apprehended and searched.
Police later recovered the object—which turned out to be an FMK 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing ten 9mm rounds.
Cole was taken into custody and formally charged. His court date is yet to be announced as investigations continue.
