St Ann Mother Gunned Down Moments After Returning from Church

Claremont, St Ann — A Sunday morning of worship turned into a horrifying tragedy after a St Ann mother of three was brutally gunned down in her home shortly after returning from church.

Dead is 37-year-old Sharon Barrett-Boswell, a businesswoman, farmer, and mother of three, of Claremont in the parish.

According to police reports, Barrett-Boswell had just returned from the Church of God of Prophecy with her children—ages 9, 14, and 17—on Sunday, August 3, when two masked men entered her home, went into her bedroom, and opened fire after reportedly questioning her.

Gunshots echoed through the house, and the children were left traumatized. Barrett-Boswell was found suffering from gunshot wounds on her bedroom floor. She died at the scene.

Her husband, who lives overseas, was not present at the time of the incident.

The victim’s brother, Hopeton Barrett, who lives nearby in the Woodstock district, described her as his “bonununus sister” and said he was left traumatized and in shock by the news. He shared with The North Coast Times that he had a premonition earlier that day and couldn’t eat dinner. Moments later, he got the devastating call from another sibling.

“All different types of mood pass over me,” he said, adding that Sharon had only recently resumed attending church after some time away.

Mr. Barrett said his sister was a go-getter, recently opening an ice cream shop near Ferncourt High School, and was also involved in pig farming and training with HEART/NSTA. He’s now caring for her three children and plans to seek counselling support for them.

Police investigations are ongoing. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.
