Man Arrested in Kingston Police: Operationman is in police custody following the seizure of an AR-15 rifle, three 9mm pistols and 100 assorted rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation on Cheetwood Avenue in Kingston on Tuesday.
The operation, conducted by members of the St Andrew South Proactive Investigations Unit (PIU) and the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB), took place shortly after 11:00 a.m. The suspect’s identity is being withheld as investigations continue.
Senior Superintendent of Police Damion Manderson said investigators believe the firearms are linked to criminal gangs operating in the St Andrew South and St Andrew Central police divisions, as well as other areas within Area 4.
He said the seizure forms part of Operation Iron Shield, an ongoing initiative aimed at removing illegal firearms from communities and apprehending wanted individuals.
Manderson commended the officers involved for their collaborative efforts, noting that investigators used both traditional policing methods and modern technology to gather evidence.
He also revealed that follow-up operations linked to the firearm seizure led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with a double murder that occurred in the Mall Road area on July 7.
The senior officer renewed his appeal for residents to cooperate with law enforcement by providing information that can assist in reducing violent crime and removing illegal guns from Jamaica’s streets.
