Little London Primary Mourns Principal’s Passing Ahead of New School Year

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – The Little London Primary School community is in mourning following the sudden passing of its long-serving principal, Shirlet Craig-Davis, just days before the start of the new academic year. Craig-Davis, who led the school for nearly a decade, tragically passed away after suffering complications from a vehicle accident two weeks prior.

Craig-Davis initially sought medical attention after experiencing a headache following the accident. She was treated and sent home with medication, but later suffered two strokes and was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), where she passed away.

The news of her death has sent shockwaves through the school, the church, and the broader community. In response to this tragedy, the start of the school year has been delayed by a day to allow for grief counseling and support for the school staff.

On Sunday, a group of teachers and church members visited Craig-Davis’ home to offer condolences and begin the process of grieving together. The Ministry of Education has arranged for a team to visit the school on Monday to provide grief counseling to the staff.

Classes are now scheduled to begin on Tuesday, though the day will be primarily focused on informing the students of the situation and providing emotional support. The school community is bracing for a difficult start to the year as they come to terms with the loss of their beloved principal.
