A Kingston man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred eight months ago on Tavares Crescent was captured by police during an operation in Portland last Wednesday.
The suspect, 23-year-old Michael Junior Adams, also known by the aliases ‘Michael Irons’ and ‘Blacks,’ has been formally charged with several serious offenses related to the December 2023 murder.
Adams, a carpenter hailing from East Road in Kingston 12, was apprehended after an extensive investigation led authorities to his hideout in the Prospect, Land Settlement district of Portland. The West Kingston police have charged Adams with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
The charges stem from a fatal confrontation that took place on December 11, 2023, involving 25-year-old Usher Morgan, a resident of Fourth Street in Trench Town.
According to police reports, Morgan was sitting on a bicycle, engaged in a conversation with Adams, when the interaction escalated into a physical altercation. During the struggle, Adams allegedly brandished a firearm and shot Morgan multiple times in the head and upper body before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called to the location, and Morgan was rushed to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigators combed the scene and recovered over nine spent casings, which were crucial in piecing together the events of that evening.
For months, Adams managed to evade capture, moving from Kingston to Portland in an attempt to escape justice. However, a coordinated effort by law enforcement officers led to his arrest last Wednesday.
Adams is now in police custody and is expected to appear in court to face charges that could result in a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
