Kingston, Jamaica – A legal firestorm has erupted between two political giants.
Former Cabinet Minister and respected attorney KD Knight has officially filed a multi-million-dollar defamation lawsuit in the Supreme Court against Minister of Health, Dr. Christopher Tufton.
The drama started at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) rally in Half-Way Tree on August 10, where Tufton played an audio clip allegedly featuring Knight’s voice criticizing PNP President Mark Golding, calling him “unfit” to be Prime Minister.
But Knight isn’t having it. His lawyers say the recording is “manipulated and misleading”, and Tufton knew or ought to have known it wasn’t authentic.
Knight’s law firm — Knight, Junor & Samuels — demanded a public apology and retraction by August 15. Tufton stayed silent, so now it’s war in the courtroom.
Knight is seeking:
- Compensatory, aggravated, and exemplary damages
- Legal costs
- A full vindication of his name
Tufton, on the other hand, is standing firm. He told the media that the clip is authentic and says he won’t be bullied into apologizing.
“I’m ready to defend myself in court – and may even counter-sue,” Tufton declared.
The legal battle is set to shake up Jamaica’s political scene as election tensions rise.
