Jamaica (McKoy’s News)- JUTC Overstaffing Caused By Political Appointments, Says Chuck: According to the Minister of Justice, Delroy Chuck, overstaffing is the problem affecting the financial operations of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

Mr Chuck states that as a result of political appointments by the previous administration, an additional 470 persons were employed.

Mr Paul Abrahams, JUTC Managing Director told Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) that when the left the company in 2012, there were only 1,780 employees, but when he returned in May 2016 that amount went up to 2,250 and he was not responsible for the increase in the amount of employees.

“They were brought in for political reasons to work at JUTC and (for) far too many government projects, politics play the major role in how it is developed, how it is executed,” Mr. Chuck asserted. He also said that a decision must be immediately taken by the Board of the JUTC to reduce its staff complement.

The JUTC is spending an additional $25 million per month, which translates to $300 million per year, to pay the 500 additional workers.
