Candidates To Sign Political Code Of Conduct Today

Jamaica (McKoy’s News)- Candidates To Sign Political Code Of Conduct TodayWith tension escalating ahead of the three by-elections, the two main political parties have prepared themselves to sign agreements today aimed at easing these political strains.

Political Ombudsman Donna Parchment Brown has confirmed that all candidates for the by-elections will be making binding declarations about how they will conduct themselves and control their supporters before, during and after the elections.

“They will appear before their custodes – two in St. Andrew, one in St. Mary – to sign a document certifying their intention to conduct their campaign and their political lives according to the standard set out in the Agreement and Declaration on Political Conduct which was signed by the JLP and PNP in 2005,” said the Political Ombudsman.

The parties have stepped up their activities ahead of the October 30 by-elections and this has resulted in increased rhetoric and tension.

In St. Mary South Eastern, there have been claims of signs being defaced, damaged or removed completely, with calls being made for the Political Ombudsman to intervene.

Mrs Parchment Brown states that today’s signing represents an attempt to stop these activities from escalating further.
