Journalist Job Nelson Killed by Airbag Fragment, Post-Mortem Reveals Misinterpreted Cause of Death

A post-mortem examination on the body of award-winning Gleaner sports journalist Job Nelson has revealed that he was not killed by a bullet, as previously reported by the police, but by a fragment discharged from the airbag of his own vehicle during a crash on May 21.

The 53-year-old Nelson, who resided on Coral Way in New Harbour Village, Kingston, was found dead inside his crashed white Honda Aria along Collie Smith Drive in Kingston 12.

Initial reports indicated that around 10:50 p.m., Nelson was driving his Honda Aria when he was allegedly shot by unknown assailants near the St Andrew Technical High School traffic light. It was believed that the shooting caused him to lose control of the vehicle, leading to the crash.

However, the post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday at the House of Tranquility Funeral Home revealed that Nelson’s death resulted from a metal fragment from the airbag piercing his chest, causing fatal damage to his lungs.
