Clarendon, Jamaica: Man Killed During Shootout – An unidentified man was fatally shot by members of a police party after he and other armed men allegedly engaged the police in a heated gun battle in May Pen, Clarendon, on Monday afternoon.
Reports indicate that around 1:00 PM, a police team was on patrol along Nelson Street in May Pen when they came under heavy gunfire from a group of men.
The police returned fire, and a heated gun battle reportedly ensued, lasting more than fifteen minutes. During this time, several of the armed men were seen fleeing the scene on foot.
When the shooting subsided, a search led to the discovery of an unidentified man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It is also reported that the gun battle resulted in the early closure of several schools and business establishments in the area.
