Two fresh faces from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) are vowing to shake things up in deep-rooted PNP territory, with their eyes set on dismantling decades of what they call “poor representation.”
Dunkley on the Move in West St. Andrew
Young attorney-at-law Corey Dunkley, just 31 years old, says the people of Western St. Andrew are fed up and ready to make a bold move come September 3. He’s challenging long-time PNP incumbent Anthony Hylton, who has held the seat since 2007.
“Mi nah lie, di people want change!” Dunkley said.
He says the constituency has been neglected for far too long, and the residents are crying out for leadership that actually delivers.
Hylton, a political heavyweight in the People’s National Party (PNP), has proven hard to beat. In the last election, he brushed aside the JLP’s Dorlan Francis by more than 1,500 votes. But Dunkley believes this time, the tide is turning.
Maragh Eyes Central St. Mary Upset
Meanwhile, over in Central St. Mary, JLP hopeful Nathaniel Maragh is also talking change.
He’s going up against the PNP’s Omar Newell, who has stepped in to replace veteran MP Dr. Morais Guy.
Dr. Guy had a firm grip on the seat since 2002, keeping it locked in PNP control. But Maragh says too many communities have been left behind.
“Di people need representation that works for everybody – not just a few,” said Maragh.
With Election Day looming, both Dunkley and Maragh say they’re not backing down. They’re promising to bring energy, action, and real results to the people – if given the chance.
Stay tuned. September 3 could bring surprises.
