Two Jamaican women, Alicia Ricketts and Renea Nelson, are set to be deported following their appearance in an Antiguan court on charges of illegal entry and their involvement in a physical altercation with an immigration officer at VC Bird International Airport.
The incident occurred on Sunday when Ricketts and Nelson were denied entry upon arrival. Reports indicate that Nelson became increasingly disruptive while in custody. The situation intensified when Ricketts allegedly assaulted an immigration officer, ripping her uniform blouse in the process.
In court, Ricketts pleaded guilty to battery and was fined EC$400. She was also fined an additional EC$500 for resisting arrest. Nelson, who pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, was fined EC$250.
Following the court proceedings, Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel of the District B Magistrate’s Court approved their immediate deportation. The women are scheduled to be sent back to Jamaica on the next available flight.
